Methodology for resource monitoring developed by the DBFZ is applied internationally for the first time
Based on an updatable database, an interactive web atlas was developed for Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) to visualize the potential of 23 agricultural and forestry biomasses. This consistent information on the biogenic raw material base is a central pillar for the strategic evaluation of options for action in the bioenergy context. The results are publicly available at http://atlasbm.bhas.gov.ba/.
The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ) is managing the project "Promotion of Renewable Energy in Bosnia and Herzegovina" on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The aim is to create more incentives for the increased use of renewable energies. Within this framework, the DBFZ (German Biomass Research Centre) has supported the development and implementation of a biomass monitoring system.
The system contains comprehensive data sets on 23 biomasses for the period from 2012 to 2017 and is used for national reporting and strategic energy planning. The results are available for four different administrative levels. The data sets are available in an open-access web atlas, which is maintained by the Agency of Statistics. The website provides additional information on calculation, data collection methods and monitoring updates, such as calculation flowcharts, Sankey diagrams and further reports. The web atlas is intuitively usable and enables decision makers, politicians as well as public and private investors to identify hot spots for mobilisable potentials. The results can be used to make strategic decisions for an improved resource use and to continuously increase the share of renewable energy sources in the country's energy mix.
