Leipzig HTP-Forum discusses "hydrothermal processes" as a key technology for a biobased economy

With hydrothermal processes (HTP), water-rich, biogenic residues can be converted into liquid, solid or gaseous carbon carriers. The further refined products have a wide application potential. For a bio-based economy, hydrothermal processes thus represent a key technology. At the third Leipzig HTP-Forum, on the 12th/13th of September 2017, the current state of knowledge in this area is going to be intensified and the mutual exchange of experience between research and industry will be promoted. Registration for the event is available at www.dbfz.de/htp.

At the heart of the 3rd HTP-Forum "Technologies for value creation through use of raw materials and as an energy source", the entire range of hydrothermal conversion of biogenic starting materials into solid, liquid and gaseous energy and carbon carriers is again presented this year. Requirements for different starting materials and hydrothermally produced or producible products as well as the treatment of municipal and industrial wastewater and waste by means of hydrothermal processes are the focus of the event as well as an intensive view of the basic conditions (politics, licensing law, market situation, etc.) and the economical, ecological and socio-economical evaluation of HTP.

In a plenum and three thematic sessions ("science", "business" and "international"), a total of twenty experts from Germany and abroad will be presenting current research topics. In addition, there is the possibility to present concrete research results as part of a poster exhibition. At an evening event the day-long discussions can be further deepened and new research contacts can be made. Before the start of the event (12 September 2017, 10:00 am), it is also possible to visit the test beds, laboratories and technical facilities of the DBFZ. A binding registration is requested.

Smart Bioenergy – innovations for a sustainable future

The DBFZ works as a central and independent thinker in the field of energy and material use of biomass on the question of how the limited available biomass resources can contribute to the existing and future energy system with sustainability and high efficiency. As part of the research the DBFZ identifies, develops, accompanies, evaluates and demonstrates the most promising fields of application for bioenergy and the especially positively outstanding examples together with partners from research, industry and public. With the scientific work of the DBFZ, the knowledge of the possibilities and limitations of energy and integrated material use of renewable raw materials in a biobased economy as a whole should be expanded and the outstanding position of the industrial location Germany in this sector permanently secured – www.dbfz.de/en.
