Field of work
Dr.-Ing. Marcel Pohl studied food technology at the Technische Universität Berlin with a focus on food biotechnology and food process technology. In the following, he conducted research on the anaerobic fermentation of lignocellulosic and other agricultural residues in a novel process for biogas production and was involved in its further development. During his stay at Cranfield University (England), he supervised a knowledge transfer project with the aim of transferring academic knowledge on biogas production to industry in a practically relevant form (Knowledge Transfer Partnership). As a member of, among others, the DIN/ISO working group "Biogas" Dr Pohl is experienced in international standardisation and harmonisation processes.
Since August 2015, Dr Pohl heads the "Biogas Technology" working group in the "Biochemical Conversion" department at the Deutsches Biomasseforschungszentrum gemeinnützige GmbH (DBFZ) in Leipzig. The working group deals with process, component and technology development for the biogas industry. It also conducts research on evaluating and increasing the efficiency of biogas plants and the material and energetic use of agricultural residuals and organic waste streams.
In 2021, he completed his doctorate at the Department of “Bioprocess Engineering” at the Technische Universität Berlin on the topic "Analysis and optimisation of two-phase solid-state anaerobic digestion of wheat straw".
