Up-cycling of food waste into high quality raw materials for the primary production of food products
The aim of the FoodLoop project is to develop an innovative concept for recycling residual materials from food processing back into primary food production in the form of high-quality protein feed for poultryrs and piglets. The aim is to reduce disposal costs and improve the sustainability of production processes. High-quality insect protein is to be obtained from residues and by-products of food production with the help of industrial insect breeding. These represent a promising raw material for the production of compound feed for livestock. The challenge is to adapt the technical processes of insect breeding to changing residues from the food industry with a short shelf life. There is a need for research into material storage, pre-treatment and process optimisation as well as the development and market launch of high-quality insect protein containing animal feed.
