BHARAT-EU: Bio-based renewable Hydrogen from Agro/forestry/biogenic Residues through Advanced Technologies
BHARAT-EU project launches a bio-based process suitable for conversion of agricultural, forest and industrial biogenic waste to renewable H2. By combining thermochemical and biological technologies developed in a collaborative frame among EU and Indian partners, non-recyclable biogenic waste is initially converted to platform chemicals such syngas or biogas and subsequently to methane. The latter is finally pyrolyzed to H2 in non-thermal plasma environment. Marketable byproducts namely, biogenic solid carbon and ultrapure CO2 are coproduced, creating new opportunities in markets currently dominated by fossils. DBFZ leads WP2, which identifies and selects the most promising feedstocks, considering available amounts, technical suitability, logistics, as well as costs. Gasification and analytical tests take place in the labs of DBFZ. In a last step, the most suitable regions for the technology are identified and analysed in depth. Several digital tools are used, and results will be published in open-access reports, peer-reviewed papers, and in the European Biomass Potential Atlas, which is an interactive tool for biomass potential visualization at DBFZ
