How can we make the transition from the raw material requirements of a future bioeconomy to specific innovation projects?

The Deutschen Biomasseforschungszentrum (DBFZ) and the Energy Saxony network will jointly address this issue at the meeting of the Energy Saxony Biomass Working Group on 26 August 2026.

The working group is jointly led by Fraunhofer IKTS, Veolia Klärschlammverwertung Deutschland Gmb and the Deutschen Biomasseforschungszentrum (DBFZ). We are delighted to welcome you to this meeting, which will be held this time directly at the DBFZ.

In this joint workshop, we bridge the gap between the strategic aspects of current and future biomass resources and their utilisation, on the one hand, and technological development and practical implementation, on the other. The focus is on the role of biomass as an essential building block of a circular bioeconomy, issues relating to sector coupling, and potential areas of application in the energy and chemicals sectors. Two keynote presentations will provide insights into strategic perspectives and specific technological possibilities; the latter will also be presented in a practical context during an on-site plant tour. In the interactive session, participants from academia and industry will jointly develop project ideas with a view to application-oriented circular solutions, transfer potential and implementation prospects. The aim is to bring together the objectives of the bioeconomy with the necessary technologies and, from this, to derive viable approaches for needs-based research and development aimed at sustainably closing material cycles.
