The pressure to act for a rapid transformation of the energy system towards sustainable renewable energy sources and products while at the same time significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions is increasing enormously for all sectors. Enormous research efforts are also required to increase reliability, strengthen weak links in the chain, reduce costs and increase sustainability at the same time. In doing so, it is essential to strengthen the systemic view and pursue paths that make sense in the long term.
