From Peatlands to Products: Combining Climate Protection with MoorFaser Value Chains

The MOOReturn research project is putting the Malchin region (Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania) at the center of a forward-looking initiative for climate protection and sustainable land use. The German Biomass Research Center (DBFZ) in Leipzig, one of Germany’s leading centers of expertise in biomass research, plays a central role in the project.

Central to the project is the florafuel® technology, which processes plants such as rushes and sedges from rewetted fens into a standardized fiber feedstock for construction, packaging, or energy applications. Through collaboration with regional businesses and institutions, not only climate protection and science benefit, but also the local economy.
