Welcome!

9th Expert Forum on Hydrothermal Processes
09-10 June 2026 | On-site event at DBFZ in Leipzig, Germany

The Call for Abstracts is now open for the 9th Expert Forum on Hydrothermal Processes, taking place on 9–10 June 2026 at the DBFZ in Leipzig. The international English-language conference covers the full value chain of hydrothermal conversion. Submissions on hydrothermal liquefaction, biomass fractionation, value-added materials and aqueous phase treatment are welcome.

The Expert Forum on Hydrothermal Processes is an established international conference series hosted by the DBFZ in Leipzig. It serves as a platform for exchange between research, industry and policy on current developments in hydrothermal conversion technologies. The forum covers the entire value chain – from feedstocks, processes and technologies to products, framework conditions and legal aspects. By bringing together experts from different disciplines, the series fosters knowledge transfer, highlights innovative approaches and supports the advancement of hydrothermal pathways for sustainable energy, fuels, chemicals and materials.

Subject areas

  • Hydrothermal liquefaction towards renewable fuels and chemicals | Scientific Expert: Prof. Patrick Biller (Aarhus University, Denmark)
  • Hydrothermal biomass fractionation and chemical synthesis | Scientific Expert: Prof. Andrea Kruse (University of Hohenheim, Germany)
  • Hydrothermal pathways for value-added materials | Scientific Expert: Prof. Markus Antonietti (Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces, Germany)
  • Pathways for aqueous phase treatment and valorization | Scientific Expert: Andrea Salimbeni (RE-CORD, Italy)

Target group

  • Researchers and scientists working on hydrothermal processes, bioenergy, chemistry, process engineering and environmental sciences
  • Industry and technology developers from plant engineering, chemical industry, energy and biomass utilisation
  • Companies and practitioners involved in the development and application of hydrothermal technologies and products
  • Public authorities, policymakers and funding bodies dealing with regulatory, strategic or funding-related aspects
  • Consultants and project developers integrating hydrothermal pathways into applied projects and value chains
