21.11.2025 | Workshop "CO2 down, added value up: biomass cascades for systematic CO2 removal"
A 90-minute workshop will be offered as part of the Bioenergy Status Conference on November 20/21, 2025. To achieve a net-zero balance in 2045, bioCDR - including land-based and technical approaches such as enhancing natural sinks, biochar and bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) - is expected to provide most of the required carbon removal from the atmosphere. One of the key challenges in the implementation of bioCDR is the availability of biomass resources. This challenge could be addressed through cascade utilization, which is expected to offer additional potential for reducing environmental pollution, increasing economic and resource efficiency and improving social acceptance. In this way, the limited raw material biomass can be used as efficiently and multifunctionally as possible. The cascade economy approach, which combines value chains and commodity flows, has been relatively little researched to date. The workshop will address the question of where bioCDR cascades can make a meaningful contribution to the system. The focus will be on regional potential within Germany. The workshop will focus on contextual factors for cascade use in order to discuss which cascades are more likely to act as problem solvers or problem creators.
08.07.2025 | Online workshop “Policy paths for a sustainable future: Final workshop as part of the EU SUSTRACK project”
As part of the EU project SUSTRACK, the organizers DBFZ and the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing invite you to the final workshop “Designing policy paths for a circular, bio-based chemicals and plastics sector”. The aim is to support political decision-makers in the transition to sustainable, circular and bio-based systems. Policy options, methods and tools for national implementation will be presented. The workshop is aimed at stakeholders from politics, science, industry and civil society. Participation is free of charge.
