Work packages

DBFZ is working jointly with Vattenfall Energy Solutions GmbH and Klasmann-Deilmann GmbH on subproject 1: “Implementation and assessment of the anaerobic digestion tests”. The subproject 2: “Analysis of the microbial communities in anaerobic digestion” is conducted by Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research – UFZ.

The PaplGas2-project is divided into the following work packages:

  1. double-function disintegration treatment and conservation of poplar wood for biogas and peat substitute production,
  2. development of digestion processes for poplar wood fibers to biogas (biomethane) on a semi-technical scale and analysis of the microbial communities,
  3. development and testing of crop cultivation utilisation concepts for the solid wood-fibrous fraction of the digestate (tests as peat substitute) on a practical scale as well as theoretical considerations on the utilisation options for the liquid phase of the digestate,
  4. Economic and ecological evaluation of the overall concept as well as
  5. development of an exemplary heat supply concept for an urban residential area based on “poplar biomethane”.
