Biochar in the spotlight of attention of the Office of the Prime Minister

H.E. Alemtsehay Paulos, Head of Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet Affairs Minister in Ethiopia, visited Jimma University and met with representatives of Jimma Institute of Technology (JIT) and Jimma University College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine (JUCVM). The new biogas training facility at JIT and the biochar-based fertilizer production at JUCAVM, both funded and supported by ETH-Soil, attracted her particular attention. The Minister expressed her profound interest in their activities and encouraged the nation-wide dissemination of biochar-based technologies and business models.

Both biogas and biochar-based fertilizers potentially contribute to the implementation of the Ethiopian Fertilizer and Soil Health Roadmap as well as the new National Agroecology Strategy for Food System Transformation in Ethiopia, 2026 to 2040.
