Katja Oehmichen has been a researcher at the German Biomass Research Centre (DBFZ) in Leipzig since 2008. She studied Civil Engineering at Bauhaus University Weimar. In the Applied Sustainability Assessment group, she focuses on sustainability assessment of various bioenergy options and on developing and standardising assessment methods. She is also involved in several research projects developing greenhouse gas evaluation methods for certification processes.
Hydrogen is often promoted as a more sustainable and in some cases even climate-neutral alternative in production processes. But is hydrogen really always climate-friendly? We shed light on the aspects that need to be taken into account when answering this question.
