FVEE policy paper: Bioenergy for a consistent climate protection and energy policy

In the current discussions on the amendment of the Renewable Energy Sources Act, bioenergy's contributions to the system are receiving little attention. Biomass energy utilisation is a supplementary component in the electricity sector to cover remaining energy requirements flexibly and cost-effectively when wind and sun are not available at certain times of the day or due to weather conditions.

In the medium to long term, energy from biomass can also make a greater contribution to structural change in the process heat and transport sectors. For a successful energy transition, it is therefore important to optimise the use of biogenic energy sources across all sectors. In any case, reliable price signals and standardised ecological guidelines are required for the efficient and sustainable use of bioenergy. Only within such a framework will the players invest in sustainable technologies and mobilise yet unused residual material potential. The FVEE (German Renewable Energy Research Association) paper on bioenergy sheds light on the possible contributions to the energy transition and provides guidance for an efficient and effective political course.
