New Sino-German Center for Biomass Research in Beijing

On the 18th of August 2017, the Sino-German Center for Biomass Research (C-DBFZ) at the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Engineering (CAAE) was inaugurated in Beijing. After a long period of preparation, this new center will foster the Sino-German cooperation in the field of biomass research. It will be the hub for binational research on agricultural issues, particularly related to environmental and climate aspects. The Director of CAAE, Prof. Dr. Bin Sui, as well as the Scientific Managing Director of DBFZ, the German Centre for Biomass Research, Prof. Dr. mont. Michael Nelles, commonly emphasized in their inauguration speeches that the new center shall initiate new projects and elaborate applied solutions for the utilization of agricultural residues. CAAE has about 600 employees and is subordinated to the Ministry of Agriculture. There are roughly 200 employees at DBFZ whose sole shareholder is the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture. Besides this similarity, there is a good match of both institute’s research agenda. Not surprisingly, CAAE has been an important cooperation partner of DBFZ since 2008, the funding year of DBFZ.
