Test facilities

For research and further development on hydrothermal processes DBFZ operates several test facilities. Batch reactors have the advantage that they can process a wide range of different biomass, usually without pretreatment steps. Besides the discontinuous reactors, DBFZ also has continuous and uninterrupted test facilities, respectively.

 

electrically heated:

  • Tmax = 300 °C, pmax = 200 bar, heating rate: up to 2,4 K/min
  • in-situ-sampling of process water possible
  • Liquid charging during the process possible

thermal oil heated:

  • Tmax = 270 °C, pmax = 200 bar, heating rate: up to 2 K/min
  • in-situ-sampling of process water possible
  • liquid charging during the process possible
  • fast, active cooling via thermostat possible

thermal oil heated

  • Tmax = 300 °C, pmax = 150 bar, heating rate: up to 2 K/min
  • fast, active cooling via thermostat possible
  • Modulary expandable due to lid holes and bottom outlet
  • gas-sampling possible
  • pivotable
  • Tmax = 350 °C, pmax = 200 bar
  • l = 860 mm, di = 20 mm, VR=1.1 L
  • flow rates range between 0.6 and 8 L/h
  • only liquid media or suspensions with particles < 1.5 mm
  • 1. stage (hydrothermal pulping): Tmax = 350 °C, pmax = 200 bar 
  • 2. stage (hydrothermal refining): Tmax = 300 °C, pmax = 100 bar
  • maximum flow rate 8 L/h
  • sampling after first stage is possible
  • in-situ-hydrogenation
